Per Pier Pricing
To put in a pier, you might need a bracket, lead, extensions, etc. Create a material for each of these items with your cost and markup. As you create your driven pier product, add the materials and the number required for 1 pier. In addition, Daily overhead, labor, equipment rental, and other costs can be added in the same way under the "Additional Costs" section.
By adding the cost of all the materials and additional costs together, you get a per-pier price of $715.20 for your customer.
Note: Users can override the line item price or edit the quantity of each component during the bid creation process for one-off changes.
Additional Costs: Labor
Your additional costs will need to align with the unit of measure for the product. For example, if you have configured the material based on a per-pier quantity, the labor also needs to be calculated similarly.
If your labor is currently calculated hourly, you can transition to a per-pier component price. For example, if a 10-pier project usually takes your crew 2 days to complete and the labor rate is $20 per person per labor hour. This is $640 in labor for that job.
Hourly Labor Calculation for a 10-pier project.
- 4 people x 16 hours = 64 hours
- 64 hours x $20 per hour = $1280 total for Labor for a 10-pier project.
Per pier labor calculation for a 10-pier project
- 10-pier project / 64 hours = 0.156 piers per labor hours
- $20 per labor hour / 0.156 piers per labor hour = $128 per pier
- $128 per pier x 10-pier = $1280 total for labor for a 10-pier project
Based on the calculations above, the configuration would be $128 per pier for labor. The quantity needed for 1 pier 1 labor unit. The system will calculate the total based on the quantity input into the form during bid creation.

Per Section Pricing
To figure component quantity per section, simply total the number of each item required to create 1 section of fence. For example, if an 8-foot section needs 1 post, 21 pickets, and 2 rails, those are the quantities you would enter into the component configuration. You will figure your labor, overhead, and any other Additional Costs similarly, making them compatible with a per-section price.
When you create the bid, you will enter the number of sections in the Quantity field on the form, and the system will automatically calculate what is needed. With the numbers above, a 10-section fence would come out to 10 posts, 210 pickets, and 20 rails. These quantities would then be multiplied by their prices and totaled together to get a line item cost for 10 sections of fence.
Example: Bidding a 10-section fence with per-section components
- 1 post per section x 10 sections = 10 posts
- 21 pickets per section x 10 sections = 210 pickets
- 2 rails per section x 10 sections = 20 rails
- 50 labor per section x 10 sections = 500 labor
Per Foot Pricing
To figure component quantity per foot, start with the quantity needed per section. You will divide this quantity by the number of feet per section. For example, if an 8-foot section requires 21 pickets, 2 rails, and 1 post, the per-foot quantity would be calculated by dividing these numbers by 8.
Example: 1 Section = 8 linear feet
- 21 pickets per section / 8 feet per section = 2.75 pickets per linear foot (overage)
- 2 rails per section / 8 feet per section = 0.25 rails per linear foot
- 1 post per section / 8 feet per section = 0.125 posts per linear foot (this will be rounded to 0.13)
You will figure your labor, overhead, and any other Additional Costs similarly, making them compatible with a per-foot price.
Additional Costs: Labor
Your additional costs will need to align with the unit of measure for the product. For example, if you have configured the material based on a per-foot or per-section quantity, the labor also needs to be calculated similarly.
If you pay $50 per 8-foot section, the configuration would be 1 labor unit at $50 each. This will be multiplied by the quantity input into the form in the same way the materials are calculated. All component prices are added together to get a line item cost.
If you are figuring your price based on linear feet, the same methodology applies. If you pay $6.40 per 1 foot of the fence, this will be multiplied by the number of feet that are put into the quantity section of the form and added to the other component prices to get a line item price.
If your labor is currently calculated hourly, you can transition to a per-section or per-foot price for components. As an example, a 100-foot project will usually take your 2-person crew 2 days to complete, and the labor rate is $20 per person per labor hour. This is $640 in labor for that job.

- 3 people x 16 hours = 48 hours
- 48 hours x $20 per hour = $960 total for Labor for a 100-foot project.
Per foot labor calculation for a 100-foot project
- 100 foot project / 48 hours = 2.083 feet per labor hours
- $20 per labor hour / 2.083 feet per labor hour = $9.60 per foot of fence
- $9.60 per foot x 100 feet = $960.1536 total for labor for a 100-foot project
Per section labor calculation for a 100-foot project
- 100 linear feet / 8 feet per section = 12.5 sections
- 12.5 section project / 48 hours = 0.26 sections per labor hours
- $20 per labor hour / 0.26 sections per labor hour = $76.92 per section of fence
- $76.92 per section x 12.5 sections = $961 total for labor for a 100-foot project
Based on the calculations above, the configuration would either use $9.60 per linear foot or $76.92 per section for labor. In both cases, the quantity needed for either 1 foot or 1 section is 1 labor unit. The system will calculate the total based on the quantity input into the form during bid creation.
